BRUNEI is keen to devise the regional approach for system level monitoring of learners’ achievements dubbed the Southeast Asia Primary Learning Metric (SEA-PLM) project which is in line to the Ministry of Education’s initiative of aiming for child-centred learning in the classroom.

In an exclusive interview with The Brunei Times on the sidelines of the launching SEA-PLM, Minister of Education, Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia (Dr) Hj Awg Abu Bakar Hj Apong said that MoE’s current target is to ensure the improvement in classroom’s interaction between teachers and students.

The minister hoped to align the SEA-PLM to the current initiative of the ministry such as the recent implementation of the Whole School ICT Development (WSID) Project under the e-Hijrah initiative to build ICT culture in teaching and learning. “It is important for us to emphasise what is going on in the process,” added the minister.

However, he acknowledged the need for strong leadership in the implementation of the project .

“To make this successful, we have to ensure that the participating countries have strong leadership to involve in this programme,” said YB Pehin Dato (Dr) Hj Awg Abu Bakar.

The SEA-PLM is initiated by the collaborative effort between the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organisation (SEAMEO) and the United Nations Children’s Fund Regional Office East Asia and the Pacific (UNICEF EAPRO).
