THE Council on Social Welfare (MKM) will be organising a charity dinner this November to raise funds for projects providing assistance to underprivileged families.

The event is slated for November 21 at The Empire Hotel and Country Club, and will feature local artistes such as Fakhrul Razi, Nadia and the Boys, Qays Muzini and Relentless Entertainment.

Tickets cost $100 per person, with tables of 10 selling for $1,000.

All profits will go towards funding charity projects such as rebuilding homes for underprivileged families, providing welfare assistance to the elderly and buying school supplies for disadvantaged children.

Since its establishment in 2009, MKM’s mission has been to help society’s most vulnerable groups, such as low-income families, migrant workers, and those in unskilled employment.

It has also partnered with two local law firms to run a weekly legal clinic that provides pro bono advice to socially and economically disadvantaged members of the community.

In 2012, the NGO was able to raise around $30,000 from a charity concert and hi-tea. The money raised from ticket sales went towards a welfare fund for senior citizens.

MKM will also re-launch its 233-page cookbook, titled Rasa & Warna Brunei Darussalam, and will sell it at the charity dinner for $35 per copy.

The book, available in Malay and English, comprises 90 recipes from MKM members and spouses of ambassadors in Brunei.

All proceeds from book sales will also go towards charity projects.
