7 automobile companies, service centres to give apprenticeship training

THE Institute of Brunei Technical Education and the Vocational Education Council recently signed an agreement with seven automobile companies and service centres to conduct apprenticeship training.
Acting Commissioner of Labour at the Ministry of Home Affairs, Zulhilmi Hj Abidin was present to witness the signing ceremony of the Apprenticeship Training Agreement (ATA) held at the Lecture Theatre, Mechanic Training Centre.
Acting Assistant Director of Institute of Brunei Technical Education, Dr Hj Mohd Zamri Hj Sabli, in his opening speech, highlighted the importance of promoting the establishment of a long-lasting partnership in providing opportunities and training for the future automotive industry apprentices.
The Institute of Brunei Technical Education in a statement said that the apprenticeship training programmes are of high quality and relevant to the industries’ needs.
Participants will undergo an institute-based training for 11 months, followed by an on-the-job training in the selected industry for 13months, where they will work experienced personnel supervision.
The participants are also expected to further develop their life skills such as self-management, planning and organisation, communication, teamwork, problem solving, initiative and enterprise, applying mumeracy, design and technology skills, and learning.
Upon completion of the training, participants will be awarded BDTVEC Skill Certificate Three Apprenticeship in Automotive Technician, along with a possibility of employment by the sponsoring company; Boustead Sdn Bhd, Happy Motoring Sdn Bhd, Jati Transport Sdn Bhd, NBT (Brunei) Sdn Bhd, Premier Motor Co Sdn Bhd, QAF Sdn Bhd, and Setia Motors Sdn Bhd.
Acting Principal of Mechanic Training Centre, Sheikh Lukman Sheikh Hj Abdul Hamid, along with representatives from industry partners and participating establishments, apprentices and parents, principals, senior officers and personnels of Institute of Brunei Technical Education also attended the event.
