RBPF briefs grassroots leaders on Neighbourhood Watch Programme

GRASSROOTS leaders were briefed on the Neighbourhood Watch Programme by senior officers from the Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF) in a meeting held at the Brunei-Muara District Office yesterday.

Delivering the briefing was the Acting Commanding Officer of the Brunei-Muara District Police, Supt Mazalan Hj Yakub and the Acting Head of the Public Relations Unit, ASP Hj Mohd Noor Hj Abd Rahman.

During the meeting, grassroots leaders were further enlightened on their role and action to be taken at district level police and the police stations in carrying out crime prevention activities together with the members of the Neighbourhood Watch.

Grassroots leaders were also told of the wider scope and meaning of the current idea of the “Neighbourhood Watch” compared to when it was known as the “Village Neighbourhood Watch”.

Besides that, village chiefs and penghulus were also briefed on the role of the Neighbourhood Watch committee and the requirements for its membership as well as actions that their members are forbidden to take.

The duties and responsibilities of the Neighbourhood Watch committee members will be further explained in the meetings that are to be held between the village chiefs and the officers in charge of the police stations in their area.

Present during the meeting was the Acting Brunei-Muara District Officer, Mohd Sunadi Hj Buntar, penghulus and village chiefs in the Brunei-Muara District as well as senior officers of the Brunei-Muara District Police. – Waqiuddin Rajak
