THE Brunei Darussalam Meteorological Department has denied reports of heavy thunderstorms which were circulated around via Whatsapp and other social media ont October 15.

In a press statement, the department reminded the public not to disseminate unverified weather information through social media, which can cause “panic and restlessness among members of the general public”.

It said the department would monitor weather conditions closely and would issue an appropriate weather advisory or warnings, whenever necessary.

Members of the public can also contact the Duty Meteorological Forecaster at the Forecast Office, Weather Services Division at the Brunei International Airport through the Weather Line 114 or 2345567 for the latest weather update. An up-to-date weather forecast is also available at the meteorological department’s website www.met.gov.bn.—Billah Hasan
