TWO exhibitions are currently being held at the International Convention Centre (ICC) to commemorate the 24th Teachers’ Day and the 100 Years of Formal Education celebration in the country.

His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam opened both exhibitions on Thursday. They showcase the chronological development of the education system in the country as early as the period during the reign of Sultan Muhammad Jamalul Alam II, the 26th Sultan of Brunei.

The exhibition titled “Pameran Raja Pengasas Pendidikan Sepanjang Hayat Menjamin Kesejahteraan Rakyat” (Monarchy as the Founder of the Lifelong Learning to Secure the Welfare of the People Exhibition) organised by the Balai Kenangan Sultan Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien, His Majesty’s Office, underscored the role of the monarchs in the country’s educational development.

The Director of Balai Kenangan Sultan Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien, Johari Achee, said the importance of the exhibition was the knowledge that people, especially students, may not find in their general readings.

“People in Brunei should understand that what we are today is because of them – the late Sultan and His Majesty, the current reigning Sultan,” he said.

Meanwhile, Dk Rosminah Pg Hj Alli, the head of the secretariat of the “100 Years of Formal Education Exhibition” organised by the Ministry of Education, said that the exhibits at the ICC will enable everyone to learn and appreciate the development of education in Brunei.

Both exhibitions at the ICC will be open to the public until October 15.
