Rough weather conditions expected
BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN
THE Meteorological Department advised the public to take precautions as Brunei will be experiencing wet weather and rough sea conditions today until October 11.
The department’s Weather Services Division warned that Brunei will experience occasional crossing of showers (squally at times), with wind gusts potentially reaching 60 km/h.
“The wave height on Brunei waters will increase from moderate to rough conditions up to 3.5m, especially over offshore areas,” the statement read.
It added that the weather and sea conditions were indirect effects of Typhoon Vongfong’s circulation and track.
“The typhoon, located around east of the Philippines, is predicted to move northwest-north across the western part of the Pacific Ocean,” the statement added.
“At 6pm (Brunei local time), October 7, 2014, Typhoon Vongfong was seen moving west at 26km/h with maximum wind gust speed of around 170km/h,” the department said.
“We also urge the public not to disseminate unverified information through social media regarding big storms and big floods due to Typhoon Vongfong – as it may cause panic to members of the public.”
The department further said severe weather warnings would be issued when the need arises.
