INSTITUT Teknologi Brunei yesterday began its conference on Professional Communication for Business, Engineering and Technology, which is aimed at keeping updated with trends and innovations for teaching communications.

During the launch of the conference, Acting ITB Vice-Chancellor Associate Professor Hjh Zohrah Hj Sulaiman highlighted the role of educators and communication.

“As educators, it becomes our prime responsibility to produce graduates who are able to grasp the complexity of knowledge and express themselves with greater understanding, clarity and ethical responsibility,” she said.

She added: “Professional communication has become increasingly important in the world where information and knowledge gathering have become extremely complex.”

Successful execution, she said, depends on one’s capacity to communicate his plan clearly and effectively.

She noted that the focus on the conference was fitting as there is currently a “communication revolution and communication explosion”.

A total of 22 papers are to be presented during the two-day conference in parallel sessions by local and international speakers.

The conference is aimed at helping educators, trainers and industry experts explore the use of professional English communication in business, engineering, and technology in diverse contexts while investigating new ways of incorporating technology in teaching professional communication.
