A TOTAL of 80 underprivileged families received korban (sacrificial) meat donated by His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam and the rest of the Royal Family on Hari Raya Aidil Adha yesterday.

The royal gift was handed out in a ceremony held at the Community Hall Complex in Bangar.

Distribution of the sacrificial meat was done by Temburong District Officer Hj Abdul Hamid Dato Paduka Hj Abdullah.

Present as guest of honour was Legislative Council member, YB Hj Sulaiman Hj Ahad.

The sacrificial act of slaughtering livestock, korban, is carried out on Hari Raya Aidil Adha in conjunction with the Haj pilgrimage and commemoration of Prophet Ibrahim's (AS) commitment to Allah (SWT) for his willingness to sacrifice his son, Ismail (AS).

According to Syariah or Islamic Law, korban is defined as an animal that is slaughtered on Hari Raya Aidil Adha and on days of Tasyrik, that is on the 11th, 12th and 13th of Zulhijjah. The act signifies gratitude for the blessings bestowed by Allah (SWT).
