HM leads Aidil Adha prayers

HIS Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam yesterday led congregants to perform Aidil Adha prayers and presented his personal gift of sacrificial meat to underprivileged individuals.
A total of 14 goats and 66 buffaloes made up for His Majesty and the royal family’s sacrifice, where the meat would be distributed to 6,145 poor individuals across the Sultanate, including 4,541 people from the Brunei-Muara District.
The number of recipients for the sacrificial meat this year was an increase from 2,497 individuals last year.
His Majesty was joined by His Royal Highness Prince Hj Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office, HRH Prince Hj Sufri Bolkiah, HRH Prince ‘Abdul Malik and HRH Prince ‘Abdul Wakeel in the sunat korban prayers at Masjid Jame’ ‘Asr Hassanil Bolkiah.
After performing the sacrificial rites on the first goat, the Sultan proceeded to present portions of the meat to 20 less fortunate individuals. A total of seven goats were sacrificed at the ceremony.
Thousands of people, including state dignitaries, ministers and foreign diplomats attended the prayers.
During the prayers, Minister of Home Affairs Yang Berhormat Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Hj Awang Bada-ruddin Pengarah Dato Paduka Hj Othman delivered a sermon on how Brunei is upholding and prioritising Islam through its monarchy system.
