THE Minister of Religious Affairs yesterday evening led the mass recitationl of Takbir Raya at Jame’ ‘Asr Hassanil Bolkiah, signalling the start of Hari Raya Aidil Adha.

Mosques around the Sultanate echoed with the sound of Takbir Raya as the nation enters the month of Zulhijjah.

To start the event, Yang Berhormat Pg Dato Seri Setia Dr Hj Mohammad Pg Hj Abd Rahman recited the Surah Al-Fatihah before leading the special takbir, while a Doa Kesyukuran was recited by Pehin Khatib Hj Suhaili Hj Metali Al-Hafiz.

More than 600 people attended the celebration yesterday, majority of which were youths from the Institut Tahfiz Al-Quran Sultan Hj Hassanal Bolkiah, Hassanal Bolkiah Arabic Secondary School for Boys, Mosque Youth Group, higher education institutions, Royal Brunei Police Cadet, Royal Brunei Armed Forces Cadet, Fire and Rescue Department Cadets, Scouts Association, Red Crescent Association and Prison Department.

Accompanying the minister were permanent secretaries Dato Seri Setia Hj Abd Aziz Orang Kaya Maharaja Lela Hj Yusof and Hj Md ‘Abdoh Dato Seri Setia Hj Abd Salam along with other senior officials from the ministry.
