A 22-YEAR-OLD Bruneian man was yesterday charged with robbery and the rape of an expat teacher at a Tutong primary school hostel.

During the proceedings at the Magistrates’ Court yesterday, Yurawandy Bujang is accused of committing robbery while causing hurt to two women, a trainee teacher and her roommate, at Tutong’s Chung Hwa Primary School Hostel on September 27.

Among the items that were allegedly stolen by Yurawandy were mostly electronic goods belonging to the victims, including laptops, mobile phones, a Samsung camera, iPad mini as well as monies amounting to $107.

Yurawandy is also charged with raping a 21-year-old expat teacher, Miss X, on the same day.

No pleas were taken from the defendant on the three charges against him as investigation into the case is still ongoing.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Hjh Rozaimah Hj Abd Rahman sought from the court to further remand the defendant for two weeks as the police required time to complete the investigation, such as obtaining the medical report and DNA results and fingerprint analysis.

The prosecution went on to say that Yurawandy’s presence is required to retrieve the stolen items since the defendant’s arrest on September 29.

Senior Magistrate Hj Nabil Daraina PDH Badaruddin allowed the prosecution’s application for further remand and set another mention of the case on October 14 at the Magistrates’ Court.

Yurawandy sought for a family visit as they were unaware that he has been arrested. He is currently being held in custody at the Bandar Seri Begawan Police Station pending the next hearing.

It was previously reported that the trainee teacher and her roommate had returned to their home country.
