THE second round of the National Lymphatic Filariasis Disease Eradication Programme started recently in the Tutong District and will run through to December.

Since September 22, three teams from the Environmental Health Services under the Tutong District Health Office have started conducting house visits in several villages in Mukim Lamunin, Ukong and Rambai.

The teams will be visiting the houses according to a planned schedule between 5.30pm and 9pm to provide medicines.

Minister of Health, Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Johan Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Hj Adanan Begawan Pehin Siraja Khatib Dato Seri Setia Hj Mohd Yusof, launched the programme early last year, with the objective of freeing Brunei from the Lymphatic Filariasis disease.

A statement from the Ministry of Health (MoH) said that they are targeting to have 65 percent of the population take their medicine if they want to consider this programme successful.

The MoH said that they are hoping to receive the support and assistance from the population in the Mukims involved.

The Lymphatic Filariasis disease is caused by soft parasitic microfilaria worms, spread through mosquito bites, breeding inside blood vessels of those that are infected.
