THE proposed Rimba “Central Bus Station” is at the “tender award” stage and it will run alongside terminals in BSB and Muara upon completion.

According to Dr Hj Supry Hj Awg Ladi, acting director of Land Transport, the station that was first mooted as a two-storey terminal two years ago is scheduled to have amenities similar to the BSB terminal with bus and taxi stands.

“The tender evaluation process has been completed and it is now at the tender award stage,” he said during a telephone interview yesterday.

“In our five-year public transport improvement strategy, we have not only indentified a few bus hub stations within the Brunei-Muara district that need upgrading but we are also discussing with the relevant agencies the provision of bus terminals in Temburong, Tutong and Belait districts.”

He added that the Muara Bus Terminal being built at a cost of $1.8 million is on schedule.

The terminal being built by Ambrose Gumma Sons Contractor is expected to be completed by March next year. Construction began in March this year.

The two-storey terminal will be equipped with a prayer room, a waiting area, restaurants, ticketing booth, office space and a public toilet. It will benefit those who use the public bus service in the Brunei-Muara district, specifically those in Muara town.

Both projects, which are under the Land Transport Master Plan, aim to improve Brunei’s public transportation and infrastructure.

The master plan takes into account the growth of the population and the country’s economy till 2035, and aims to prepare a land transport system that is sustainable and ensure the country’s public transport is reliable, conducive, safe and environmentally friendly.
