Ministries observe Teachers’ Day

THOUSANDS of Ministry of Education (MoE) and Ministry of Religious Affairs (MoRA) employees yesterday attended a thanksgiving ceremony to mark the 24th Teachers’ Day at Masjid Sultan Hj Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien.
The event, which was also held to commemorate 100 years of formal education in Brunei, aimed to strengthen the commitment of educators towards delivering quality education.
Joining the ceremony were Minister of Education Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia (Dr) Hj Abu Bakar Hj Apong and Minister of Religious Affairs Yang Berhormat Pg Dato Seri Setia Dr Hj Mohammad Pg Hj Abdul Rahman.
The event began with the recital of Surah Al-Mulk led by Mudim Hj Amran Hj Mohd Salleh, followed by mass Asar prayers led by Begawan Pehin Khatib Dato Paduka Hj Awg Hamidon Begawan Pehin Siraja Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Hj Abd Hamid, the mosque’s imam.
The ceremony concluded with a prayer for the safety of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam and the country.
The event was part of the religious activities planned by both ministries to commemorate 100 years of formal education and the 24th Teachers’ Day.
Brunei will celebrate Teachers’ Day and 100 years of formal education in a ceremony at the International Convention Centre on October 9.
Themed ‘Lifelong Education to Ensure the People’s Welfare’, Teachers’ Day is usually celebrated every September 23 as a mark of respect to the late Sultan Hj Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien’s contributions to education.
The Ministry of Education has also lined up side events such as a week-long exhibition on the 100 years of formal education in Brunei to showcase the progress of education.
