HRH Princess Sarah opens domestic science expo

HER Royal Highness Paduka Seri Pengiran Anak Isteri Pengiran Anak Sarah yesterday launched the Domestic Science Exhibition 2014 organised by the PERTIWI Association.

Her Royal Highness Princess Hjh Masna also graced the event that took place at the International Convention Centre.

The one-day exhibition, held to mark His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam’s 68th birthday, was divided into six categories: education, family welfare services, health and safety, economy and food, clothes, and equipment for household management.

The chairperson of the event, Datin Hjh Siti Hajar Pehin OKKS Dato Paduka Hj Mohd Yusof, said the role and responsibilities of women especially mothers are not limited to cleaning the house, taking care of children and cooking for the family.

“Mothers in this millennium need to manage their household wisely as well as be able to compete with the advancement in this borderless and challenging cyber era,” she said.

Datin Hjh Siti Hajar went on to say that about 50 vendors and SMEs participated in the exhibition.

“The exhibition and sale is related to household management and the responsibility of a housewife, regardless whether they have a job outside the home or not.

“This exhibition was also intended to highlight the opportunities available to housewives in the form of economic activities such as cooking and craftsmanship, thus generating additional income for the family,” she added.

The exhibition also aimed to focus on the important role of mothers in building a happy and healthy family.

Meanwhile, demonstrations and products displayed consisted of local cakes and dishes as well as tudung (headscarf) and songket (traditional woven fabric)

Their Royal Highnesses toured all booths and mingled with the participants.

Her Royal Highness Paduka Seri Pengiran Anak Isteri Pengiran Anak Sarah also presented the participants with certificates of appreciation.
