Health minister calls for comprehensive agenda for health in ASEAN region

THE Minister of Health has recommended for health issues to be constantly addressed in a comprehensive agenda as well as to support target setting and performance indicators of the level of health in the ASEAN Region.

During the 12th ASEAN Health Ministers’ Meeting in Hanoi, Vietnam on September 18 to 19, Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Johan Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awang Hj Adanan Begawan Pehin Siraja Khatib Dato Seri Setia Awang Hj Mohd Yusof also recommended that ASEAN cooperation in health development should also focus on the development of health in the workforce, which will not only ensure a sufficient number of competence but a high caliber as well.

“This is taking the importance of the role of the health workforce who will contribute to strengthening and ensuring the sustainability of a quality health care system, the welfare of society and socio-economic development as well as regional stability.”

YB Pehin Dato Hj Adanan also highlighted the importance of aligning the planning and implementation of development programmes and activities in the ASEAN region with sustainable development goals after 2015.

The meeting was officiated by His Excellency Nguyen Tan Dung, Prime Minister of Viet Nam.

During the meeting, the ministers agreed on a joint statement , that underscored their commitment to the health agenda in ASEAN.
