BSP marks 85th anniversary

BRUNEI Shell Petroleum (BSP) yesterday concluded the 85 times Khatam Al- Quran programme initiated as part of its 85th anniversary in a closing ceremony held at the BSP headquarters in Panaga.

The eight-month programme, which aimed to encourage BSP’s onshore and offshore Muslim staff to conduct daily readings of Quran, saw the combined efforts exceed the target, completing the khatam 181 times.

Present as guest of honour was Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Singamanteri Col (Rtd) Dato Seri Setia (Dr) Hj Mohd Yasmin Hj Umar, Minister of Energy at the Prime Minister’s Office.

Through the khatam, BSP Deputy Managing Director Hj Salleh Bostaman Hj Zainal Abidin said the BSP family was uniting to ask for blessings and protection of Allah SWT to achieve lasting safety in the company’s operations.

It also hoped to continue to be the source of the nation’s wealth as well as keep Brunei in the favour and protection of Allah SWT.

The event saw a total of 280 BSP staff registering to complete the khatam. Copies of the Doa Guide and Daily Practices booklet were also distributed to all Muslim staff members.

Also present at the ceremony were Permanent Secretary of Energy Dato Paduka Hj Jamain Hj Julaihi, Dato Seri Setia Hj Abd Aziz Orang Kaya Maharaja Lela Hj Yussof, permanent secretary at the Ministry of Religious Affairs.

Last Friday, the “85 years in Shell” celebrations started with a thanksgiving ceremony and doa selamat held at BSP’s prayer hall in Seria.
