68 trees planted at Berakas Forest Reserve

SIXTY-eight trees were planted along the shores of the beach at the Berakas Forest Reserve Recreational Park early yesterday morning to mark His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam’s 68th birthday.

Joining the tree-planting event was Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Utama Dato Seri Setia Hj Yahya Begawan Mudim Dato Paduka Hj Bakar, Minister of Industry and Primary Resources.

Organised by the Royal Thai Embassy, the tree-planting activity also saw members of the Thai community and officers from the Forestry Department lending a hand.

The trees were planted at two sites, to the left and right of the forest reserve.

The event yesterday was also organised to celebrate the 30 years of diplomatic relations between Brunei and Thailand, as well as support the ministry's efforts in preserving Brunei's forests.

Greeting the minister on his arrival at the forest reserve were the Thai Ambassador to Brunei Apichart Phetcharatana, and also the Permanent Secretary of Industry and Primary Resources Hjh Normah Suria Hayati Pehin Jawatan Dalam Seri Maharaja Dato Seri Utama (Dr) Hj Awg Mohd Jamil Al-Sufri.
