THE grand finale of the 2nd Borneo Bird Race 2014, which carries the theme “Birding into the Heart of Borneo”, will be held in Brunei Darussalam from October 1-2.

Speaking during a media conference yesterday, Mariani Hj Sabtu, acting tourism development director at the Tourism Development Department, said the last leg of the competition will take place in Kampong Ayer and Ulu Temburong National Park.

Mariani said that the first two leg will be held in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah and Kuching, Sarawak from September 24 to 29.

Nine teams comprising 27 people have confirmed their attendance, hailing from Hong Kong, India, Japan, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan and Thailand.

In addition to the 2nd Borneo Bird Race 2014, Brunei Darussalam will also be organising the first photography contest to record the bird species at Tasek Lama Recreational Park on September 28 from 9am to 4pm. This event will be opened for citizens and residents in the country and the registration form will be available on September 14. It is hoped that such an event will enable participants to study bird species in Borneo and also help create environmental awareness, as well as to attract animal activists from around the world to come to Borneo.

The 2nd Borneo Bird Race 2014 is co-organised by the Tourism Development Department from Brunei, Sabah and Sarawak as well as Sandakan Borneo Bird Club.
