BRUNEI will observe the National Youth Day on September 3 at the National Indoor Stadium, featuring youth performances and youth awards.

A senior official at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports told The Brunei Times that a mini exhibition will also be held during the event.

It will showcase five clusters of youth activities: Youth support on Syariah Law, Young Entrepreneurs, Culture, Volunteerism and Youth Development.

The National Youth Day 2014, themed “Together towards withstanding 21st Century challenges”, revolves around solidarity, peace and prosperity, the ministry said.

Over a hundred youth will take part in the oath reading, while more than 300 flag bearers from the National Service Programme (PKBN) will fly the flag high. Meanwhile, 250 youth from schools, mosques and associations will take part in the performances.

National Youth Day was first held in 2006, initiated by His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam as a way to appreciate and celebrate the contribution of youths, and to motivate them in their efforts towards national development.

On this day, awards will be presented to outstanding individuals and associations in recognition of their work in youth and national development.

The National Youth Day also serves as a platform for youths to gather and exchange thoughts and opinions, especially those that are related towards the country’s national development.

It also aimed to encourage these youths to do meaningful activities together, fostering good relationships and integration amongst them. A full dress rehearsal will be taking place at the Indoor Stadium today.
