Crown Prince begins five-day official visit to S’pore today

HIS Royal Highness Prince Hj Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office, will leave for Singapore on a five-day official visit today.

The five-day visit (September 1-5) will see HRH attending the Singapore-Brunei Young Leaders’ Programme (YLP), which the two countries launched last year.

HRH will be accompanied by Her Royal Highness Paduka Seri Pengiran Anak Isteri Pengiran Anak Sarah and their children, His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Muntaqim and Her Royal Highness Princess Muneerah Madhul Bolkiah.

The visit at the invitation of Deputy Prime Minister (DPM), Coordinating Minister for National Security and Minister for Home Affairs, Teo Chee Hean “reaffirms the excellent relations and longstanding friendship between Singapore and Brunei”, according to a press statement from Singapore’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

During the visit, President Tony Tan Keng Yam and his wife will host Their Royal Highnesses to tea, while Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong will host lunch for HRH and the Bruneian delegation.

A welcome dinner will also be hosted by DPM Teo and his spouse and HRH is also scheduled to meet Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Tharman Shanmugaratnam.

The Crown Prince’s other itinerary for the trip includes defence, education and national development visits. HRH will visit the Singapore Armed Forces’ Multi-Mission Range Complex, hosted by Second Minister for Defence Chan Chun Sing as well as a site visit at Henry Park Primary School hosted by Singapore’s Minister for Education Heng Swee Keat.

HRH will also visit the new Singapore Sports Hub, and will be briefed on Singapore’s preparations for the SEA Games by Minister for Culture, Community and Youth Lawrence Wong and Minister of State for National Development Desmond Lee.

Brunei’s delegation includes the Minister of Development, Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Indera Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Hj Suyoi Hj Osman; Deputy Minister of Finance Dato Paduka Hi Bahrin Abdullah, Deputy Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office Dato Paduka Hj Ali Apong and other senior officials.
