SOME forty orphans from villages in Brunei-Muara received donation from a local cooperative and a local resort aimed at helping them prepare for school neccessities.
The orphans from Kampung Salambigar, Kg Sungai Hanching and Tanah Jambu, were presented the donation by President of Koperasi Persatuan Tiba (KOTIBA) Dato Paduka Hj Yaakub Hj Ahmad, yesterday in a ceremony held at the Mangrove Paradise Resort.
“We (KOTIBA) make this donation after the Hari Raya celebration because we wish (for the recepients) to spend the money on buying books and school stationeries,” said the chairman.
The orphans were identified through the Community Development Department (JAPEM) which allowed KOTIBA and the Mangrove Paradise Resort to present the donations, added Dato Paduka Hj Yaakub.
Mangrove Paradise Resort supervisor Karim Hj Aji, told The Brunei Times that he hoped the ceremony would encourage other associations or individuals to partake in similar events.
Karim urged members of the public to hold ceremonies that would bring happiness to orphans, not only during Raya celebrations, but also on other days.
