MUKIM Mentiri’s Kg Batu Marang residents yesterday raised the national flag to show their love for His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, on the occasion of the monarch’s 68th birthday celebrations.

Pengarah Hj Awg Abd Rahman Hj Naim, penghulu of Mukim Mentiri, said the flag hoisting ceremony has become an event to display their patriotic spirit.

“Since it was directed by the His Majesty’s government, there exists this fortitude within the heart of the villagers and thus hoisting our beloved national flag is our way to show our loyalty and love towards His Majesty,” said Pengarah Hj Awg Abd Rahman, who is also the acting chief of Kg Batu Marang.

During the hoisting of the national flag at the penghulu’s residence early morning yesterday, members of Kg Batu Marang Consultative Councilwere present, and joined by youth singing the national anthem.

Other houses at the village were also seen raising the national flag at their homes after the ceremony.

Kampung Sungai Buloh Village Head Pg Hj Ismail Pg Ibrahim said His Majesty is the protector to the people in this country.

“His Majesty is our payung (protector) and therefore, we should thank him by hoisting the national flag,” he added.

Located about 17 kilometres away from Bandar Seri Begawan, Kg Batu Marang has an area of over 276 hectares, with more than 1,000 residents.
