National flag-waving campaign kicks off

THE flag-waving campaign mobilised by the Information Department is making its comeback in conjuction to His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam’s birthday yesterday.

Launched at the Yayasan Sultan Hj Hassanal Bolkiah Complex, the campaign aimed to foster and enhance residents’ awareness about their responsibilities to hoist and display the national flag during the celebrations.

The campaign is also looking to remind the public of the feeling of respect and love, especially towards the national flag as a symbol of greatness and sovereignty of the Sultan and the country.

In addition, the campaign seeks to encourage and cultivate the practice of national flag waving among citizens especially in commemorating grand festivities while complying with the instructions set on how the flags should be hoisted.

Present as the guest of honour was the Deputy Minister of Home Affairs Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Hj Halbi Hj Mohd Yussof.

Also in attendance were the permanent secretaries, deputy permanent secretaries and the acting district officer, Mohd Sunadi Hj Buntar, as well as the penghulus and the village chiefs in the country.

The ceremony started with the recital of Surah Al-Fatihah, followed by choir performances singing the national anthem and the “Bendera Negara.”

After the chairperson, Mawardi Hj Mohammad, acting director of Information Department, and the guest of honour made their remarks, the ceremony was further enlivened by a sketch titled Darussalam Cermerlang performed by Putra Seni, a cultural group.

The choir group then performed more patriotic songs, followed by the presentation of the national flag, anthem book and the poster as well as brochures on the flag-hoisting campaign to the grassroots leaders who were present.

The event also saw the unveiling of the department’s campaign vehicles, which will run along the district’s business premises, government and private buildings, mukims and villages, during the campaign.

The flag-waving campaign will be extended to other districts, tomorrow at Belait, Tuesday at Tutong and Temburong on August 7.
