Raya tomorrow as moon not sighted

HARI Raya Aidil Fitri, 2014 will be celebrated tomorrow, Tuesday, July 29, as the Hilal (new moon) was not sighted yesterday.

The announcement was made yesterday by the command of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam following reports from the moon sighting teams at DST Tower on Tungku Highway, Bukit Agok in Jerudong, Bukit Ambok in Tutong and Bukit Lumut in Belait.

Reading the announcement on national radio and television, Radio Televisyen Brunei (RTB) was Syariah High Court Judge, Pg Hj Mohd Tashim Pg Hj Hassan.

The moon sighting event at DST Towers in the Brunei-Muara district was attended by Minister of Development Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Indera Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Haji Suyoi Haji Osman together with Jame’ Asr Hassanil Bolkiah Imam Pehin Khatib Hj Suhaili Hj Metali Al-Hafiz and Permanent Secretary of Communications Abdul Mutalib Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Setia Dato Paduka Hj Mohd Yusof.

The Ministry of Religious Affairs (MoRA) in a corresponding event conducted a doa recital ceremony while waiting for the results of the moon sighting event.

The ceremony, held at the Ministry building, was attended by the minister Yang Berhormat Pengiran Dato Seri Setia Dr Hj Mohammad Pg Hj Abd Rahman and former religious affairs minister Pehin Jawatan Luar Pekerma Raja Dato Seri Utama Dr Ustaz Hj Md Zain Hj Serudin.

Also present was Chief Syar’ie Judge Pehin Diraja Khatib Dato Seri Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Hj Yahya Hj Ibrahim, MoRA Deputy Minister Pg Dato Paduka Hj Bahrom Pg Hj Bahar and Legislative Council member Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Imam Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Hj Awg Abdul Hamid Bakal.

Seri Begawan Religious Teachers University College (KUPU SB) led the recitation of Quranic verses and other prayers to bide the time.

A statement issued by the ministry also announced that the nationwide Sunat Hari Raya Aidil Fitri prayer will be held in all mosques at 7.30am tomorrow July 29.
