IMAMS yesterday called upon all Muslims residing in the country to pray for the health and longevity of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam who had just turned 68 years old on July 15.

Delivering the Friday sermon yesterday, the imams said that the people of Brunei Darussalam have “enjoyed a life of peace and harmony under the leadership of the king whose rule is just and wise”.

Imams added that even during the era of globalisation filled with unrest and chaos, the citizens of Brunei have always been protected under the care of the king who has always emphasised on the teachings of Islam and the laws of Allah in the formulation of administration.

“As citizens, we must care for and obey the ruler and accept all orders of government as long as the instructions given are not against the laws of Syara’,” said imams.

During the sermon, the imams also highlighted the night of Lailatul Qadar as Muslims are entering the last 10 days of Ramadhan.

The night of Lailatul Qadar is a special evening when all acts of worship will be rewarded graciously — it is worth more than a thousand months.

According to some religious scholars it will fall on one of the odd numbered night of the last 10 days of Ramadhan which is the 21st, 23rd, 25th, 27th and the 29th.

Imams said that the night of Lailatul Qadar “will be silent, filled with calmness and brightness. The situation will continue till the break of dawn. In the morning after, the sunrise will be white while not emitting scorching rays of light”.

There are four things that an individual is recommended to do once he realises that he is experiencing the night of Lailatul Qadar.

First, he must invite his family members to perform acts of worships. Secondly, the individual should head to the nearest mosque to perform various acts of worship as was done by Prophet Muhammad (SAW). He should perform Qiyamul Lail or staying up the whole night performing the worship.

Finally, the individual should pray or make doa to Allah SWT purely to ask for forgiveness for all of his sins and also for all the wrongdoings of his parents.

Imams also recited the Doa Qunut Nazilah to pray for the protection of Muslim ummah in Palestine.
