UBD, ITB add learning facilities
BRUNEI-MUARA
UNIVERSITI Brunei Darussalam (UBD) and Institut Teknologi Brunei (ITB) have added new facilities to better accommodate students and improve their learning experiences.
UBD’s Pengiran Anak Puteri Rashidah Sa’adatul Bolkiah Institute of Health Science now has an extension building aimed at inter-disciplinary learning for better communication between doctors and nurses.
“The extension building was established recently (this month) to expose nursing students to learn the theory of managing case scenarios so that they are more confident before applying their theory to the clinical operation room,” said Nursing Lecturer, Norashikin Hj Md Sofian.
She added that the new building has more space and practical equipment compared to the old Nursing College in Gadong.
His Royal Highness Crown Prince Hj Al-Muhtadee Billah yesterday visited the new facilities that were allocated under the 10th National Development Plan.
In addition, UBD’s Faculty of Science has a new building equipped with a building management system to monitor energy use.
The design itself takes into account the position of the sun itself so that the building will get the maximum daylight, which will reduce the use of lighting facilities, said assistant architect of the building design, Jigs Tacbad of Arkitek HAZA.
He said the new Faculty of Science building, which was completed last year, would also help minimise the amount of heat entering the building so that less energy would be spent on air-conditioners.
Meanwhile, the Phase 3 construction of ITB saw its completion in April this year, but is yet to be fully used by students.
Director of ITB’s International and Public Relations Office Hj Ady Syarmin Hj Md Taib said the project’s third phase would provide students a with more learning facilities compared to the older buildings.
Its new facilities include a student centre, a library, lecture theatres, a surau and a multi-purpose hall for sports.
