LegCo representatives seek more grassroots facilities for public in Brunei-Muara, Tutong

TWO Legislative Council (LegCo) members yesterday proposed the construction of more multipurpose halls, recreational parks and other public amenities in the Brunei-Muara and Tutong districts.
Brunei-Muara representative YB Hj Gapor@Hj Mohd Daud Karim, said areas that are in need of a multipurpose halls included Mukim Serasa and Mukim Kota Batu.
In addition, Tutong representative YB Hj Ramli Hj Lahit said multipurpose halls are needed for Mukim Keriam and Mukim Kiudang in Tutong.
During the 10th LegCo sitting yesterday, Home Affairs Minister YB Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Hj Awg Badaruddin Pengarah Dato Paduka Hj Othman responded issues on the construction of multipurpose halls can be discussed in the respective district offices.
YB Hj Ramli also suggested the setting up of gerai (stalls) at Mukim Rambai and Kg Danau for residents to sell their products.
He further raised the need for community projects such as constructing jetties at Sg Telamba and Sg Danau, building ‘pondok sihat’ (healthy huts) at Kg Bukit Beruang, beautify the landscape of Danau Park and Mukim Rambai futsal court.
The expansion plan of Tutong town should be extended to the vicinity of (Sg Kedai Lama Tutong) to build business premises, children’s playground and recreational areas, he added.
YB Hj Ramli also suggested the construction of a cable car service from Bukit Bendera (Bendera Hill) across Sg Tutong, as well as boat services along Sg Tutong.
This will encourage tourism and provide job employment for the locals, he said.
The LegCo member said problems involving youths are a phenomenon that can be handled through various channels.
He said the construction of a football field, recreational parks and multi-purpose halls in mukims can offer youths with venues for healthy activities.
