Brunei’s 5th World Down Syndrome Day this Friday, March 21

THE Down Syndrome Association will be joining the rest of the world in observing World Down Syndrome Day.

The annual event will take place on Friday, March 21 at Dewan Afiah, Ministry Of Health, Commonwealth Drive.

Down Syndrome Association in its statement yesterday said, “All members registered with ABLE are invited to this event and for those who are yet to register are also welcome to come as a counter for new registration will be open during this event. Activities schedule to take place includes a talk by an invited speaker on ‘Enriching the lives of individuals with Down Syndrome’ and also ‘Health Promotion Screening’ by Child Development Centre (CDC).”

The association, who stand by the theme ‘Ability Build Through Learning and Experience (ABLE)’ will also organise a tahlil and thanksgiving ceremony at Pengiran Muda Abdul Malik Mosque in Kg Tungku Katok in the evening of March 20.

The event will also include Maghrib and Isyak prayers.

According to the World Down Syndrome Day (WDSD) website, the event is a global awareness day which has been officially observed by the United Nations since 2012.

Each year the voice of people with Down syndrome, and those who live and work with them, grows louder.

Brunei first began observation of the day in 2010.
