WORK related to the construction of the new transforcer station for Radio Televisyen Brunei (RTB) in Temburong will be carried out this year, said the minister of energy during the fifth day of the 10th Legislative Council (LegCo) session yesterday

According to YB Pehin Datu Singamanteri Colonel (Rtd) Dato Seri Setia Hj Mohd Yasmin Hj Umar, RTB has identified a two-acre site in Kg Batu Apoi deemed suitable to house their new studio in Temburong.

The energy minister said the selected site was based on its location – which faces the main road – and is about 1 kilometre away from Bangar and not too far from the Telekom Brunei Berhad (TelBru) building, which allows it to fulfil technical necessities for broadcasting.

“To meet the technical demand for broadcasting, the building is connected with a fibre optic system from Bangar’s Telekom Brunei Berhad (TelBru) station, and a microwave system to the capital (Bandar Seri Begawan),” YB Pehin Dato Hj Mohd Yasmin said.

Additionally, in response to a query put forward by YB Hj Sulaiman Hj Ahad pertaining to the station’s construction, the energy minister said the Department of Town and Country Planning has informed him of the site not having any obstacles that would make it unsuitable for use by RTB.

YB Hj Sulaiman had also asked about RTB’s plans to ensure all its programmes are in line with the principles of Syariah law.

In response to this, YB Pehin Dato Hj Mohd Yasmin said RTB will provide emphasis for religious programmes such as the Nur Islam network and the RTB 5 channel, which will also include all 52 15-minute episodes of the ‘Kuliah Al-Kanun’ TV programme.

An additional recommendation was made by YB Hj Ramli Hj Lahit for RTB to not broadcast any portrayal of congestion in banks, at ATM machines and shopping departments during ‘bonuses’ to protect the public from opportunistic criminals.
