NAVAL vessels are on the lookout for signs of the missing Malaysia Airlines (MAS) Flight MH370 in Brunei waters as international search and rescue efforts continue to intensify.

The Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) yesterday told The Brunei Times that ships from the Royal Brunei Navy will keep an eye for clues of the Boeing 777-200 aircraft while patrolling the country’s Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) that stretches 200 nautical miles from its coast.

“We have ships patrolling our EEZ to monitor the area and at the same time to look out for any signs (of the missing aircraft),” said Pehin Datu Pekerma Jaya Major General Dato Seri Pahlawan Mohd Tawih Abdullah.

Flight MH370 vanished from radar while en route from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, to Beijing, China, last Saturday with 239 people on board.

No debris from the Boeing 777-200 has been found despite extensive search and rescue operations involving over nine aircraft and 24 vessels.

Meanwhile, the RBAF also conducted sunnat hajat prayers at its military camps and garrisons nationwide for the safe return of Flight MH370 and its passengers as well as cabin crew.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the families. We hope they find strength and resolve in this trying time. We also pray for the safety of all those involved in the search and rescue operations,” said the Commander.
