Anti-Vice squad brings down two alleged prostitution rings

FOLLOWING public tip-offs on prostitution activities, the Anti-Vice and Gambling Suppression Unit have brought down two alleged prostitution rings operating from a hotel in the capital and a house in Kg Telanai yesterday morning.

Seven foreign women were arrested during the raid by the unit acting on the authority of the Women and Children Protection Act instigated by the Department of Community Development, Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports.

Items believed to be related to the illicit activities were also seized.

If found guilty under Section 294A of the Penal Code, first offenders can be penalised with a fine of no less than $500 and not exceeding $5,000, as well as imprisonment of one year.

If found guilty of a second offence and subsequently convicted, a fine of no less than $1,000 and not exceeding $10,000 as well as three years imprisonment will be implemented.
