10th Session of Legislative Council officially opens today

THE 10th Session of the Legislative Council (LegCo) will be officially opened today by His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam.

The annual parliamentary session is expected to last approximately two weeks.

Among the topics for discussion are the annual budget (known as the supply bill) and other matters of national interest.

LegCo comprises a total of 33 members, including His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam; the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office; HRH the Duli Pengiran Perdana Wazir; the 11 cabinet ministers; and 19 appointed members who represent the cheteria, all four districts and various professional, social and religious groups.

The meeting will convene at the Legislative Council building on Jalan Menteri Besar, chaired by Speaker of the Council, Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Laila Setia Bakti Diraja Dato Laila Utama Hj Isa Pehin Dato Perdana Manteri Dato Laila Utama Hj Ibrahim.

Assisting the speaker during the proceedings will be Pehin Orang Kaya Pekerma Jaya Dato Paduka Hj Judin Hj Asar, Clerk I to the Legislative Council, and Dato Paduka Hj Abd Salam bin Abd Momin as Clerk II.

After the conclusion of the official opening ceremony, sessions will be opened to public viewing. –
