THE Brunei Economic Development Board’s (BEDB) 4,000 housing project in Mentiri/Mengkubau will be completed by the end of this month.

A total of 2,400 terrace houses and 1,600 semi-detached homes are being constructed to help meet the country’s demand for housing, BEDB stated.

In the future, the 309 hectares in Kg Mengkubau will have public amenities such as schools, mosques, commercial areas, medical centres, police and fire stations.

Semi-detached and terraced houses are fitted with three bedrooms and bathrooms, covering 121.5 square metres.

The $388 million National Housing Scheme project commenced in February 2010.

Works for the project included earthworks, roads, drainage, water reticulation and storage tanks, BEDB said.

The project also included the construction of a power and electrical network, sewerage reticulation and treatment plant and telecommunication fibre optic system.

Soft and hard landscapes have also been created in community areas and parks.

The statement from BEDB said the project would meet the increasing demand for housing in the country and reduce the waiting period.

It added that the project will meet the country’s vision to be among the top 10 nations of the world in line with Vision 2035 objectives.

The contractor for the project is UEM Builders Berhad of Malaysia, while the consultant is Surbana International Pte Ltd. The architectural design is handled by Arkitek Suria YTF, Brunei. Jurutera OMC oversees the civil and structural aspects of the project.
