THE Tutong District Retired Government Officers Association (PAKATAN) held a charity walkathon yesterday at the Royal Dais in Tutong District.

Over 40 retirees participated in the event, aimed at raising funds for the organisation, with a portion of the donations going to orphans in the district, said Hj Yahya Ham-id, the event’s deputy chairman.

Tutong District Officer Wardi Hj Mohd Ali was the guest of honour. He also participated in the walkathon, the second of its kind to be organised by PAKATAN.

After a brief stretching and aerobics session, the retirees proceeded to walk 1.5 km around the area.

Formed in 1994, PAKATAN is mainly for Tutong residents and those born in the district. However, those who have relatives in the district can also join. Hj Yahya said: “Maybe under a new constitution in the future, retirees from all districts will be invited to join.”

PAKATAN will also be organising a charity sale of second-hand goods from March 7-9 at PAKA-TAN’s headquarters to raise money for the association and the district’s orphan fund, he added.

The association has organised similar walkathons and charity sales events in previous years. Hj Yahya said 60 per cent of the donations were given to the Palestinian victims’ fund.
