Syariah Penal Code briefing for MoHA staff concludes

THE briefing on the upcoming implementation of the Syariah Penal Code Order 2013 for the Ministry of Home Affairs’ staff came to a close yesterday.

Around 100 staff of departments under the ministry attended the two-day briefing which was held at the multipurpose hall of the Syariah Courts building.

Also present was the Deputy Minister, Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Hj Halbi Hj Mohd Yussof.

The briefing was presented by five speakers from Attorney General’s Chambers , Islamic Legal Unit at the Ministry of Religious Affairs, Islamic Da’wah Centre, and Syariah and Law Faculty at Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali.

The Syariah Penal Code Order will be enforced in three stages: six, 12 and 24 months after the Order was gazetted, starting off with minor offences and punishments before its full enforcement, which will include the death penalty.

The briefing ended with a question and answer session between participants and the panel.
