Preparations for 30th National Day in full swing

THE first combined rehearsal for the upcoming 30th National Day field performances took place yesterday, and saw the atmosphere at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium being filled with cheer and uplifting energy.
Present at the rehearsal were the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Pekerma Laila Diraja Dato Seri Setia Hj Hazair Hj Abdullah; the Minister of Education, Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia Hj Awang Abu Bakar Hj Apong; and the Minister of Development, Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Indera Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Hj Suyoi Hj Osman.
The Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports as one of the co-chairs for the 30th National Day celebration applauded all participants on their hard work, and encouraged them to perform at their utmost best on the event day.
“You have demonstrated a strong performance with full enthusiasm and commitment, personifying true Bruneian solidarity,” the minister said at the end of the field performance.
Also in attendance were Deputy Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Datin Paduka Hjh Adina Othman and Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports Hj Md Rozan Dato Paduka Hj Md Yunos.
Meanwhile, Mohammad Abdul Hj Awg Damit, Director of Field Performances, said participants are almost ready for show time next Sunday. He also spoke of the necessary safety measures that will be taken in the event of any emergency.
“Due to the limited number of seats, members of the public have been also encouraged to watch the event live on RTB. We also welcome them to watch the rehearsals on February 18 and 19 and the final dress rehearsal on February 20. Hopefully everything will go as planned, InsyaAllah,” said the director.
Vendors of stalls surrounding the venue are profiting from high sales traffic as well. Hjh Amnah Sarudin, 46, said the number of participants buying food from her stall has been very encouraging, and she looks forward to the upcoming celebration.
Two thousand seats will be allocated to the general public on February 23 at the National Stadium. In the event of the number of attendees exceeding the number of seats available, the Hassanal Bolkiah Indoor Stadium will be opened where live feeds of the celebration will be broadcast on giant screens.
