AS part of the 30th National Day celebrations the Youth and Sports Department will be organising the annual National Day run in all four districts on March 30.

This year’s run is organised with cooperation of the Brunei Amateur Athletics Association (Persatuan Olahraga).

According to organisers, participants will compete in 12 categories: the 3Km Fun Run; Below-17 Men’s 5Km run; Below-17 Women’s 5Km run; Above-18 Men’s 10Km run; Above-18 Women’s 10Km run; Veteran Men’s 10Km run; Veteran Women’s 10Km run; and five categories of 3km runs each for people with special needs.

Ten winners will be selected for the women and men Below-17, Above-18 and veteran’s categories while three winners will be chosen each from the five special needs categories.

The veterans and the special needs categories will only be held at the Brunei-Muara District.

Online registration for participants, which requires a $15 registration fee, will be opened as of today until March 6.

For Brunei-Muara, payments can be made at the Youth and Sports Department at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium in Berakas while payments for the remaining three districts can be made the Youth and Sports Department’s district branches.

Each participant is only allowed to join one category and those who are under 17 should obtain permission from their parents or guardians. The National Day Run is open to everyone including foreign nationals and aside from running, a pre-run warm-up session and lucky draws will also be held.

According to Mariam Ulat, the Head Officer of Youth and Sports Department, the National Day Run aimed at encouraging the public to be active in sports.
