AN INDONESIAN man was sentenced to three months in jail and three strokes of the cane after he pleaded guilty to overstaying in Brunei for more than a year following the expiry of his social visit pass.

Dali Iskandar, 26, was detained during an inspection by officers from the Enforcement Section of the Immigration Department at a house in Perpindahan Kg Mentiri on February 7.

Dali had produced his passport to the immigration officer wherein his social visit pass dated October 4, 2012 was found to have expired on October 11, 2012.

An endorsement stating that no extensions were allowed was also found in his passport. Dali was, however, unaware of this.

Investigations found that Dali entered Brunei on September 9, 2012 through the Sungai Tujoh Control Post and was granted a 14-day social visit pass.
