Flood, landslide fund donated to 31 Health ministry personnel
HEALTH ministry personnel whose homes in Tutong District were affected by the recent flood and landslides received donations from the ministry yesterday.
Minister of Health, Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Johan Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Hj Adanan Begawan Pehin Siraja Khatib Dato Seri Setia Hj Mohd Yusof presented the contributions to the 31 personnel whose familes were affected yesterday.
The contribution was distributed from the ministry’s flood and landslide victims fund.
Chief Executive Officer of Pg Muda Mahkota Pg Muda Hj Al-Muhtadee Billah Hospital, Mohammad Sabri Hj Anuar said the Minister’s leadership and encouragement in collecting the donations showed the ministry’s sincerity to care for the welfare of its staff.
The flood in Tutong district affected 5,847 residents, while 51 people were evacuated from their homes and relocated to temporary shelters.
The situation had since returned to normal.
Two of the recipients interviewed by The Brunei Times said floodwater and landslide had receded and their lives were almost back to normal, however some of their (items) were damaged beyond repair.
Assistant Nurse Puspawati Hj Sabli hailed from Jalan Sepakon, Kg Tanjong Maya, one of the areas severely affected by the flood.
“My children were at home when it started to flood. The water rose during the day so we were able to pack our things.
Now Alhamdulilah, the flood water has long since subsided . It has been raining for the last few days but we do not think the river water level will rise. We think it should be alright,” she said.
Mohd Jeffery Tungor, another recipient of the donation who works at the hospital as a chef said that his village, Kg Batong, Jln Panchor Murai was inundated with the floodwater levels above the knee.
“Alhamdulilah, with the help of my family members we managed to save most of our belongings,” he said.
