THE nationwide flag-waving campaign in preparation for the approaching 30th National Day Celebration reached the Tutong District yesterday.

Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) Yusof Hj Abd Rahman attended the event held at the Canopy Tamuneka, Kg Serambangun.

Organised by the Information Department through its Tutong branch, the campaign seeks to raise awareness among members of the public on the importance of raising the nation’s flag to commemorate National Day, and to encourage the love and respect of residents towards the national flag.

Acting Director of Information Department Mawardi Hj Mohammad, in his welcoming remarks said that the campaign carries a different approach this year whereby the department has planned to widen its reach to all mukims and villages as well as business premises in every district.

This change is hoped to encourage better relations between the department and the mukim and village communities.

The acting director also mentioned that some home-owners and businesses fail to raise the flag according to the appropriate mannerisms.

Mawardi urged penghulus and village heads to help guide residents under their care to understand the importance of raising the national flag correctly, so that future generations will know the flag’s true meaning and value.

At the event, the deputy permanent secretary handed out campaign materials comprising posters, brochures and books on the national flag to penghulus and village heads in the district.

The campaign will be held in Temburong tomorrow and Belait on Thursday.
