TWO Bruneian women and a Malaysian man were killed in a fire that swept through the Jackhan Furniture factory in Kg Mulaut yesterday.

A witness at the scene said that one of the employees who was killed in the fire was an 18-year-old student who was waiting for her exams result. “She was planning to continue her study at Sengkurong Sixth Form Centre,’’ the witness said.

The cause of the blaze and amount of loss are still under investigation.

A Fire and Rescue Department official at the scene said that upon receiving emergency calls at 12.49 in the afternoon reporting a fire at Spg 90 Kg Mulaut, the department deployed six fire trucks from its stations in Pangkalan Batu, Jerudong and Bandar Seri Begawan with a total of 24 firefighters.

The firemen put out the fire 33 minutes after arriving at the scene.

The fire also destroyed some cars within the premises.

A witness said that the strong wind made the fire spread fast.
