FIRE broke out in an apartment at the seven-storey Bangunan Bersama Flat in Kg Kumbang Pasang yesterday.

No casualties were reported.

When contacted, the Fire and Rescue Department said they received the distress call at 4.52pm.

Three fire engines from the Bandar Seri Begawan Fire Station were deployed to the scene.

The fire broke out in the kitchen on the fifth floor of the flat.

The department was unable to comment further on the cause and amount of losses as they are still investigating.

One of the tenants who live a unit away said she and her family were watching TV when her maid alerted her on noises she heard outside their window.

“My maid looked out the window and said that there were a lot of people downstairs. When I went out, that’s when I saw a lot of smoke and realised that a fire broke out,’’ said the tenant.

She said she believed there was no one in the apartment when the fire broke out.

She said that the person whose unit caught fire was not at home as he usually goes out to fetch his children from school at the time the fire broke out.
