Armed gang robbery accused to enter plea next week

TWO men and a woman are expected to enter their plea next Monday at the Intermediate Court on their respective charges of armed gang robbery and possession of stolen goods.
The case was adjourned yesterday as the interpreter from the Indonesian Embassy in Brunei was unable to attend the proceedings. The defendants had requested an interpreter for the charges to be read to them.
The court documents stated that 34-year-old Mohamad Idris, Marnewi, 44, and three other persons robbed a house in Kg Sg Hanching armed with a knife and a screwdriver on December 5, 2013. Armed gang robbery carries a penalty of up to seven years in jail and not less than 12 strokes of the cane.
Meanwhile, Intan Dewi Gangga, 29, is charged with dishonestly receiving stolen property, namely the proceeds of the gang robbery; jewellery and cash notes of different currencies some time on December 5, 2013. Possession of stolen goods carries a jail term of up to 15 years and an unspecified amount in fines.
Intermediate Court judge Hj Abdullah Soefri POKSM DSP Hj Abidin has scheduled for a further mention of the case on February 10.
