RECITING Ayat al-Kursi is beneficial to Muslims as it is special and regarded as the most majestic andchief among verses in the Quran, said the State Mufti yesterday.

Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Seri Maharaja Dato Paduka Seri Setia (Dr) Ustaz Hj Abd Aziz Juned was delivering a dawn lecture at the Jefri Bolkiah Mosque in Kampung Batong.

Among the secrets of the Quranic verses that had been widely written is that of the Ayat al-Kursi, said the state mufti.

“Everyone knows and understands why it is being read and many people have memorised it.”

YB Pehin Dato (Dr) Ustaz Hj Abd Aziz said that Ayat al-Kursi can have up to 93 names which can be simplified into 40.

He listed out some of the names whereby different names indicate different benefits Muslims can get by reading and reciting the verse.

“Among those names is ‘Ayat al-Fath’ which means the Bearer of Victory where the ultimate victory is to be able to enter God’s paradise,” he said.

Ayat al-Kursi is also known as Ayat al-Barakah wa an-Nama’, and reciting it can also bring about abundant blessings and prosperity in life.

Citing a firman, the state mufti said that whoever reads Ayat al-Kursi would be able to look at God’s face on the Day of Resurrection.

“Seeing the face of Allah (SWT) in the afterlife is the dream of all those who are faithful and it is the ultimate pleasure and blessings (for Muslims),” he said.

The verse is also named Al-Ayat al-Haafizah, which means keeping anyone who reads it protected from everything in all circumstances.

Other names that the verse is known as are Ayat al-Hareesah which means guardian or keeper, and Al-Ayat ad-Daafiah which means that that reciting it would repel plagues and diseases when it is read diligently.

The name al-Ayat ad-Daafiah also reflects the verse’s ability of being able to fix bad mannerisms, replacing it with an admirable character as well as to expel devils from any residences.

YB Pehin Dato (Dr) Ustaz Hj Abd Aziz said that Ayat al-Kursi is also called Ayat al-Muhshinah.

This name indicates that the verse has the ability to bring its readers into the ‘divine fortress’, keeping them protected from anything that might harm them.

“Another name for the verse would Ayat al-Mustaghisin — those seeking safety when afflicted with calamity or facing difficulties and dangers should read Ayat al-Kursi,” he said.

During the lecture, he also highlighted the Quran as being a treasure trove of beneficial knowledge, and reading it continuously will never cause the supply to run out.

“The words of Allah (SWT) in the Quran are referring to His knowledge which is non-measurable and cannot be estimated as God’s knowledge is very wide and deep,” said the state mufti.
