BRUNEIAN students in Egypt are safe and well, the Bruneian Embassy in Egypt reiterated in a press statement yesterday.

The statement said: “The students are residing at the students’ buildings Darussalam and An Nour in Hayyu Sadis, Nasr City.”

There are 158 Bruneian students in Egypt.

The embassy said it was in constant communication with the students and that it was continually updating them about the security situation in the country. The embassy has periodically advised students to limit their movements outdoors and to avoid large gatherings and areas prone to demonstrations.

As of now, there is no plan to move the students to another location, the embassy said.

“However, the embassy has a contingency plan ready to ensure the students’ safety. The embassy has also come up with guidelines and procedures for relocation and evacuation.

“The students have been briefed about the contingency plan as well as on the guidelines and procedures,” the statement added.

The embassy said some parents had requested updates through the Ministry and Foreign Affairs and Trade and the Ministry of Religious Affairs. The Ministry of Religious Affairs has also set up special communication lines to keep families informed about the situation in Egypt.
