SHEIKH Husrin Jairul Azry Sheikh Hassan won the Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA) Malay Language Pidato (Oratory) Competition with a score of 80 per cent yesterday.
Sheikh Husrin received $250 at the competition held at the UNISSA Auditorium. Second place with a score of 74.3 per cent went to Nooramalina Sulaiman who won $200. Fakrul Amirin Ismail came in third with a score of 65.9 per cent and received $150.
The theme for the competition “Rasulullah (SAW) Pencetus Ummah Sejagat” or “Rasulullah (saw) is the spiritual catalyst of Islamic community” was held in conjunction with Maulud Nabi celebration and was organised by the university’s Student Executive Council.
The competition was open to all students at UNISSA. The seven finalists were from the Faculty of Syariah and Law, Faculty of Business and Science, Faculty of Arab Language and Islamic Civilisation and Faculty of Usuluddin (Islamic Knowledge).
Presentations were seven-10 minutes long. Topics covered by students include the role of family, educational system, the beauty of loving Prophet Muhammad (SAW) and the importance of understanding the Prophet.
Chief judge UNISSA lecturer Dr Hjh Rasinah Hj Ahim said that the students showed their “bravery” by standing on the stage. However, she saw room for improvement noting some presenters did not use enough rhetoric in their speech, were too fast, inarticulate or did not use appropriate gestures or postures.
Present at the competition was Acting Rector of UNISSA Pg Anak Dr Hj Amiruddin Alam Shah Pg Anak Hj Ismail.
