New rank for RBAF Deputy Commander

THE Deputy Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) was promoted to the rank of Major General yesterday, marking yet another significant milestone in his military career.

Pehin Datu Pekerma Jaya Major General Dato Seri Pahlawan Mohd Tawih Abdullah received his promotion, with the consent of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, in a ceremony at the Bolkiah Garrison Officers’ Mess.

“I will do the best to fulfil the responsibilities entrusted by the Sultanking and the country with the divine guidance of Allah SWT,” he told The Brunei Times in an interview.

The 49-year-old Deputy Commander began his military career on December 6, 1982, enlisting as a potential officer cadet in the RBAF and he went on to graduate as a Second Lieutenant from the Officer Cadet School in Portsea, Australia.

He served his first tour of duty as a Rifle Platoon Commander with ‘D’ Company at the Royal Brunei Land Force (RBLF) First Battalion.

Over the years, Pehin Major General Dato Mohd Tawih continued to climb up the ranks and held various appointments including Commandant of the Training Institute at RBAF prior to assuming his current position as Deputy Commander of the RBAF. He took up his appointment as Deputy Commander of the RBAF on May 25, 2011, following his earlier promotion to Brigadier General.

Present at the ceremony yesterday to instal the rank insignia onto Pehin Major General Dato Mohd Tawih was the Commander of the RBAF, Major General Dato Paduka Seri Hj Aminuddin Ihsan Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Hj Abidin.

Also in attendance were members of the Defence Executive Committee alongside other senior military personnel and family members.
