THE Islamic Quran Readers Association (IQRA) of Brunei Darussalam offers lessons in reading Al-Quran to ensure that residents of the country will have proper knowledge on how to read the Noble Book.

For Muslims, reading Al-Quran can help shield one from bad influences as well as cleanse and purify the soul.

“The Quran contains the words of Allah and should be recited daily,” said Acting Director of IQRA Hj Mislee Hj Abdullah during his welcoming speech at a Khatam Al-Quran ceremony organised by the school.

He also said that the Khatam Al-Quran (ceremony to make the completion of reading the entire Noble Book) also has its benefits as explained in several hadiths.

The ceremony began with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah led by the guest of honour, Managing Director of Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Hj Ibrahim Hj Ismail.

The recital of Doa Takhtim was lead by Norhalifah Hj Sulaiman followed by the Doa Khatam which was recited by one of the students, Mohd Kasyful Hilmi Hj Johari.

After the ceremony, Hj Ibrahim presented certificates and souvenirs to the participants. This was followed by the sprinkling of Bunga Rampai by the guest of honour and the parents of the participants.

Khatam Al-Quran ceremonies at IQRA take place twice a year. According to the coordinator of the Al-Quran and Muqaddam IQRA School, there are currently more than a thousand students enrolled in the Al-Quran and Muqaddam classes.

Residents from any age group are encouraged to join their classes. A majority of the students have proceeded to Arabic schools and later on enrol at the Institute Tahfiz Al-Quran Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah.

The Al-Quran and Muqaddam classes take place every Friday and Sunday at the IQRA Primary School. The school has opened up its seventh branch at Kg Sinarubai.
